After requesting for another design of the resort by Albstar to TP&D, the studio based the design concept of the resort inspired by the Italian vernacular town architectural theme (Positano).
The main idea is “revised historicism”, namely the use of vernacular architectural forms combined with modern elements such as glass facades and openings to create a new identity. The goal was to create a ‘sense of place’ that despite the fact that is a new development that is constructed as a single project, forms the impression that has always been there and is produced over a long period of time and by lots of people.
This was achieved through the repetition of the main formal building type in many variations, ranging from 1-4 floors with terraces and roofs and positioned in different combinations and angles. The in-between common spaces of public stairs, paved roads and piazzetas become the connecting tissue of the settlement that is shared between all the inhabitants. The hotel common facilities form the heart of the resort, conceived as a coastal castle with a big piazza overlooking the beach from the side.
The development comprises a Luxury Suites Boutique Apart-Hotel (The Corniche), which forms the heart of the resort and two residential neighbourhoods on the back, (the Mountain Residences and the Valley Residences) differentiated by the distinct views that they offer. Besides that the development offers a variety of services to the visitors, in particular a restaurant facing a large open-air swimming pool, a beach-side taverna, an all-day moorings bar, a sports club, a spa and smaller shops serving the residential components.
The resort is designed as user friendly for the pedestrians encouraging walking and exploring the space by foot through a vast system of pathways and calderims connected through public stairs. Additionally, a funicular is proposed as means to lessen the dependence of residents from private cars for their internal movements and particularly for accessing the beach and towncentre. The funicular is positioned slightly immersed in the ground passing underneath the parkways and is accessed in five levels. It will operate as a public elevator without operator. The terminal station is at the main piazza from where easy access to the beach is enabled by public stairs and elevator.
